The CommentLuv Plugin for WordPress is used in blogs or WordPress-powered sites. It fetches the link to the latest blog post of the commenter and adds the post title and link to the commenter’s comment.

I have seen this plugin used in other blogs. And I have always wanted to include it in one of my blogs. I have now installed it on my Life with the Diyosa Blogger site and I hope it will encourage more readers to comment.

I first met ChiQ Montes during the ingress for WordCamp Philippines 2008. She was one of our hard-working volunteers. She is also the Filipina behind the wildly successful blogsite: WordPress Theme Designer.

Her site offers FREE WP Themes for any of your WP needs. All her themes have a clean, dynamic look that can be used for a lot of niches and purposes. These themes aren’t just for blogging, but can also be used for online magazines or company sites. Most of her themes are also offered in various colors. Nice.

And as if to prove that she is THE WP Theme Designer, 13 of her designs has been cited by Smashing Magazine as being some of the 100 Amazing Free WordPress Themes for 2009. Congratulations Chiq!!!

WordPress is the blogging software that I use for both my free blogs hosted on WordPress.com, and several self-hosted blogs that I own and maintain including this TechnoMaria blog.

Last September 2, 2008, I spoke at the Philippine Youth Congress for IT (Y4IT) 2008 about WordPress. Noting that my audience would be mostly college students who are non-bloggers, and have probably never heard of WordPress, I took the introduction route and decided to take the Introduction route so the students would not be intimidated by WordPress.

I briefly discussed both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, how easy it is to use and install, and its potential uses.

I hope the presentation encouraged the students to blog, or use WordPress for other purposes. While I also use other blogging platforms, I can vouch for WordPress being user-friendly and versatile. I have more than 10 blogs running on it.

And there’s more to come from WordPress, during WordCamp Philippines, it’s lead developer Matt Mullenweg revealed some nifty innovations from Automattic including WordPress 2.7, and BuddyPress. More on this, in an upcoming blog entry.

I’ve been blogging and using WordPress (free and self-hosted) for years, but all of my self-hosted blogs were created and installed by Kuya Andrew.

A few weeks ago, the UP ITTC and UP SITF invited me to speak at the Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology (Y4IT), and my topic is WordPress. Easy, right? I thought so.

But I was challenged to step up and install my own self-hosted WordPress blog so I can fully understand how easy it is to do it. Why? So I can speak with authority, from my own experience during the Y4IT. I sure don’t want to embarrass the people who invited me by being inept. I want to give my best talk, using the best possible resources and doing the best research I could.

I’m not much of a gadgets and tech girl, but I get by. This installation of my own self-hosted blog, and the maintenance of it will challenge me to learn more, know more about IT stuff which will help me with my blogging and other online work.
