<p>Last September 2, 2008, I spoke at the <a href="http://y4it.up.edu.ph/">Philippine Youth Congress for IT</a> (Y4IT) 2008 about WordPress. Noting that my audience would be mostly college students who are non-bloggers, and have probably never heard of WordPress, I took the introduction route and decided to take the Introduction route so the students would not be intimidated by WordPress.</p>
<p><span id="more-25"></span>I briefly discussed both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, how easy it is to use and install, and its potential uses.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the slideshow that I used:</p>
<p align="center">
<div style="width:425px;text-align:left" id="__ss_592848"><a style="font:14px Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif;display:block;margin:12px 0 3px 0;text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/riajose/an-introduction-to-wordpress-presentation?type=powerpoint" title="An Introduction to WordPress">An Introduction to WordPress</a><object style="margin:0px" width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=wordpress-ppt-1221129686305527-8&#038;stripped_title=an-introduction-to-wordpress-presentation" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=wordpress-ppt-1221129686305527-8&#038;stripped_title=an-introduction-to-wordpress-presentation" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
<div style="font-size:11px;font-family:tahoma,arial;height:26px;padding-top:2px;">View SlideShare <a style="text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/riajose/an-introduction-to-wordpress-presentation?type=powerpoint" title="View An Introduction to WordPress on SlideShare">presentation</a> or <a style="text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/upload?type=powerpoint">Upload</a> your own. (tags: <a style="text-decoration:underline;" href="http://slideshare.net/tag/wordpress">wordpress</a>)</div>
</div>
<p>I hope the presentation encouraged the students to blog, or use WordPress for other purposes. While I also use other blogging platforms, I can vouch for WordPress being user-friendly and versatile. I have more than 10 blogs running on it. <img src='http://www.technomaria.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>And there&#8217;s more to come from WordPress, during WordCamp Philippines, it&#8217;s lead developer <a href="http://ma.tt">Matt Mullenweg</a> revealed some nifty innovations from <a href="http://automattic.com">Automattic</a> including WordPress 2.7, and <a href="http://buddypress.org/">BuddyPress</a>. More on this, in an upcoming blog entry. <img src='http://www.technomaria.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>For more information on WordPress and their other projects, visit <a href="http://automattic.com">Automattic.com</a> and <a href="http://ma.tt">Ma.tt</a>.</p>
<p><em>Presentation created using Microsoft Powerpoint 2007, converted to .ppt, and uploaded via <a href="http://www.slideshare.net">SlideShare.net</a>.</em></p>
