Here’s a little something for you WordPress users: the Daily Top Ten Posts Plug-In. This plug-in won as the Best Plug-In or Extension in the Philippine Blog Awards 2008.

How is this plug-in helpful? The Daily Top Ten Plug-In keeps track of the blog posts that have the most number of views for the day, and over-all (see my side bar). This is very helpful for those who are planning to branch out into niche blogs, or maybe for SEO purposes. You may also use this to know the topics and keywords that your blog readers or visitors are most interested in.

So head on over to my tech guru‘s blog at this LINK to download the Daily Top Ten Plug in. He has two versions, one for WP 2.7, and another for WP 2.6 and below.

Had a problem today. Had to open an Open Office document, but apparently, I already un-installed Open Office. My simple solution:

1. Email the document to myself through my Gmail account.
2. Open it as a Google document.
3. Copy and paste to a new MS Word document or a notepad file.
4. Save.

THAT EASY!

No, no, no… Google Chrome is not an epic fail. But I am. While, I tried very hard to be faithful in using ONLY Google Chrome for seven straight days, I FAILED! I failed for some reasons:

• because the shop I frequent only has Internet Explorer;
• because Multiply’s Java Uploader is not working on Google Chrome; and
• because old WordPress versions (I think pre-2.6) are not compatible with Chrome.

Nonetheless, I am standing by Chrome and will be using it as my default browser. Here’s why:

• I love that it has keeps a record of the sites I visit most often;
• it doesn’t have a toolbar on top;
• I can do a Google search just by typing the words on the address bar;
• IT HAS TABS; and
• it’s easy on the eyes;
• it’s faster; and
• downloads are easier to monitor.

However, I think it has to have a Google toolbar, and it has to have plugins such as those in Mozilla Firefox. And yeah, please make the Multiply Java Uploader work.

I am currently using Google Chrome, the latest product of Google. It is an open source web browser by Google.

From today until September 19, 2008, I will only be using Google Chrome in lieu of Firefox 3 which I am used to. So far, there aren’t any major differences that I have noticed, except for the “Most Visited Sites” page that is displayed everytime I open a new tab.

My only problem so far, is with the Multiply Java Uploader but I’m not blaming Chrome since I’ve been having the same problems with FF3.

I wonder if there is a Google toolbar for Chrome already.

WordPress is the blogging software that I use for both my free blogs hosted on WordPress.com, and several self-hosted blogs that I own and maintain including this TechnoMaria blog.

Last September 2, 2008, I spoke at the Philippine Youth Congress for IT (Y4IT) 2008 about WordPress. Noting that my audience would be mostly college students who are non-bloggers, and have probably never heard of WordPress, I took the introduction route and decided to take the Introduction route so the students would not be intimidated by WordPress.

I briefly discussed both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, how easy it is to use and install, and its potential uses.

Here’s the slideshow that I used:

I hope the presentation encouraged the students to blog, or use WordPress for other purposes. While I also use other blogging platforms, I can vouch for WordPress being user-friendly and versatile. I have more than 10 blogs running on it.

And there’s more to come from WordPress, during WordCamp Philippines, it’s lead developer Matt Mullenweg revealed some nifty innovations from Automattic including WordPress 2.7, and BuddyPress. More on this, in an upcoming blog entry.
